Previous events during 2011
Sunday 16th JanuaryDuring the week of Prayer for Christian Unity,we held a joint service today at 9.30am at St Mary Magdelene parish church.
Sunday 23rd January
On this day there was an East Durham Churches Together Unity Srevice at 3pm at Carrville. Carrville's music group and the Sherburn Hill Salvation Army Band led our worshop, and there was a collecton for Christian Aid.
Sunday 30th January
We celebrated our Church Anniversary with the morning service being led by Rev Graham Carter followed by lunch.
Sunday 13th February
Our quartlery cafe-style service took place in the hall on the theme of love and involved our music group.
Sunday 13th February
Our very first Messy Church took place where everyone in the family was welcomed for craft, celebration and food.
Friday 4th March
Women's World Day of Prayer was celebrated in two services.
Saturday 5th March
The March coffee morning was organised by the young people and was part of Fairtrade Fortnight. Money was raised for Durham Youth for Christ.
Sunday 13th March
All ages joined together for Messy Church and shared in crafts, celebration and food.
Saturday 2nd April
The April coffee morning raised funds for Leprosy Mission.
Sunday 3rd April
Mothering Sunday service was a children and young people's service co-ordinated by Rev Alison Wilkinson and Heather Blackwell our children's and young people's worker.
Monday 4th - Friday 8th April
Children from local schools explored our Easter Journey.
Sunday 10th April
All ages joined together for Messy Church and shared in crafts, celebration and food.
Sunday 17th April
Rev Ruth Gee led a cafe-style joint service of local Methodist churches in the Durham and Deerness Circuit.
Tuesday 19th April
An Agape service with a selection of Easter music and readings.
Wednesday 20th April
Worshipers shared in a Tenabrae quiet reflective service at Sherburn Hill chapel led by Rev Alison Wilkinson.
Maundy Thursday - 21st April
We shared in united Maundy Thursday communion service led by Rev Alison Wilkinson.
Good Friday - 22nd April
The Good Friday service was led by Rev Alison Wilkinson.
Easter Sunday - 24th April
Rev Alison Wilkinson led an all-age Easter Service.
Saturday 7th May
We held a prayer breakfast with bacon butties, followed by a coffee morning in aid of Durham Youth for Christ.
Sunday 8th May
All ages joined together for Messy Church and shared in crafts, celebration and food.
Sunday 15th - Saturday 21st May
Fundraising activities took place for Christian Aid Week.
Thursday 19th May
Members of the church met for the Annual General Meeting to talk about our vision for the future.
Saturday 4th June
Our annual summer fair took place with kids' activities, gifts, books, cake stall, puzzles, refreshments and much more. Proceeds were in aid of the church's outreach and development.
Sunday 12th June
A Pentecost Praise service with East Durham Churches Together took place at St Joseph's Roman Catholic church in Gilesgate.
All ages joined together for Messy Church and shared in crafts, celebration and food.
Sunday 10th July
People of all ages joined in with Messy Church with crafts, celebration and food.
Friday 15th July
The Car Treasure Hunt was great fun and everyone enjoyed the well-deserved food at the end.
Saturday 23rd July
A farewell barbeque was held for the Blackwell family.
Sunday 24th July
Members of the Sunday School enjoyed a summer party
Monday 25th - Friday 29th July
Our annual holiday club took the theme of Jungle Jamboree and great fun was had by all.
Sunday 31st July
We celebrated the holiday club in our cafe church.
There was a break over the summer for most of the regular activities.
Sunday 11th September
We returned from the summer holidays to share again in Messy Church for crafts, celebration and food. If you missed this one, come along to the next one.
Sunday 18th September
We held our annual Compassion Sunday which was led by members of the church.
Saturday 24th September
The annual Pie and Pies harvest supper and family evening was great fun.
Sunday 25th September
Andy and Esther Longe took our Harvest Festival service which was followed by a hunger lunch. Harvest gifts were donated to the Salvation Army.
East Durham Churches Together joined together in a harvest praise at St Cuthbert's Church, Shadforth with The Salvation Army Band and St Giles Church Choir.
Saturday 1st October
The Autumn Fair was held in aid of Church Outreach and Developmentand and included a cake stall, crafts, holiday gift stall, tombola, bric-a-brac, books, raffle, bouncy caslte, face painting and refreshments.
Messy Church was great fun as we joined together for craft, celebration and food.
Saturday 22nd October
'In the Pink' Coffee morning raised funds for Breast Cancer Care.
Saturday 4th November
Our monthly prayer breakfast was held where we shared breakfast whilst sharing concerns and exploring different ways of praying. This was followed by the Brownies running a coffee morning in aid of DADLG (Durham Area Disability Leisure Group).
Sunday 13th November
On Remembrance Sunday there was a short communion service at Carrville Methodist Church followed by a service at Belmont Cenotaph.

People of all ages joined in with Messy Church with crafts, celebration and food.
Sunday 20th November
Our annual Shoebox Sunday was led by Mr Andrew Emison.
Saturday 26th November
The now annual family thanksgiving supper took place where participants brought a dish special to their family to share.
Sunday 27th November
Rev Alison Wilkinson led us in a traditional service.
The Christmas Journey took place exploring the Christmas story with local school children.
Saturday 3rd December
The church's Christmas Grotto and Fair will take place 10.00 - 1.00 in aid of Church Outreach activities, so come and join in the fun. There will be a Christmas Tree, jewellery, cakes, jigsaws, Christmas crafts, kids activities, bouncy castle and much more.
Sunday 4th December
6.00pm - Churches Together Carol Service will take place at the Salvation Army Citadel, Sherburn Hill. Unwrapped gifts will be gratefully received especially for children under 12 and for adults. Alternatively, donations may be given and presents will be bought.
Advent Groups
Weekly groups took place during Advent on Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings.
Saturday 10th December
The Christmas Prayer Breakfast took place with festive bacon sandwiches, and some time to be still and prepare for Christmas.
Sunday 11th December
The "Two little angels" Nativity service was led by our children and young people. A special Christmas Messy Church was enjoyed by many.
Sunday 18th December
Traditional Carol Service was held by candlelight
Tuesday 20th December
A group from the church went carol singing to members of the local community who are housebound.
Christmas Eve - Saturday 24th December
The All age Family Service included an impromptu 'scratch nativity' for all the family (babies to grandparents) and this was followed by a quiet communion.
Rev Alison Wilkinson led the Christmas Day celebration.
