Worship and Prayer

Worship

We meet for worship on Sundays (10.30am and 6pm) and Tuesdays (9.45am). Once a month we have a joint service with the congregation of the parish church of St Mary Magdalene in Belmont.

During the Sunday morning service the children join with us in worship for the first part of the service before leaving to continue in their own act of worship and activities. There is a crèche available for under 3s, Play & Pray (for younger children) and Friends of God (older children). We regularly hold all age worship where all the church family meets together.

Our worship may include a service of baptism when we welcome new members to the Church family. The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is observed on some Sundays when an ordained minister is conducting the service. We invite anyone who loves Christ and His Church to share in the sacrament with us. At other times, our services may be led by the Minister or by Local Preachers, who are lay people given a licence to preach by the Methodist Church. This variety stresses the Methodist view of living out one’s faith by recognising that all God’s people have their own particular duties and responsibilities, some within the church, others in God’s world.

An informal worship service takes place on Tuesday mornings (9.45am). This gives an opportunity for all members and friends who are free at this time during the week to join in worship in a less formal atmosphere. Young mothers with small children have found this time of worship to be of great help since the attendance of young children is positively welcomed. This service is followed by coffee and chat, and is completed at approximately 11.15am to enable mothers with young children at school to be able to meet them at lunch-time.

Prayer

Prayer is a gift from God which enables us to be attentive to God in the world and in our lives. It is a way we can communicate with God and express what we believe. We can pray individually, in small groups or collectively in a worship setting. You may find the following links useful in your own prayer life.
