What’s on now!  Services and Events

Read on to discover the services and events we have taking place in Durham City East Methodists at our churches in Carrville, Pittington and Bowburn. A coffee morning takes place before the Bowburn and Pittington services, and refreshments are available the Carrville services – all are welcome to join us for refreshments and/or the services. Conversations that matter – taking about your faith with others
There will be a series of four ‘Good Conversations’ workshops, which will explore how we can talk about God with others.  Join us to learn to foster deeper, more meaningful conversations within our church community. These workshops will take place on Wednesdays from 10am – 12 noon on the following dates:

  • 22nd October (Carrville) – Creating space for conversation
  • 5th November (Carrville) – Navigating challenges
  • 12th November (Bowburn) – Talking about Faith
  • 26th November (Pittington) – The Art of listening

9.30am (Carrville) – Rev. Fiona Weir leads our Remembrance service (note the earlier start time), following by a short service at Belmont war memorial.

Tuesday 11th November
9.30am (Carrville) – Mrs Norma Nevin leads our informal worship.
10.15am (Pittington) – Ms Soo Illingworth will lead this service.

11.15am (Bowburn) – Rev. John Jebaseelan leads this service.

Saturday 15th November
9.00-10.00am (Carrville) – Prayer breakfast (note the change to the date – now on 3rd Saturday of each month)
10.00-11.30am (Carrville) – Monthly coffee morning (note the change to the date – now on 3rd Saturday of each month)
10.00-3.30pm (Elm Ridge Methodist Church, Darlington) – Vice President of Methodist Conference leads a day on ‘Our Story, Our Song’

10.30am (Carrville) – Deacon Ruth Lakenby with Lieutenant Georgia Smith lead our service. We are supporting the Salvation Army Christmas Big Toy Appeal – if you’re like to support this appeal please bring unwrapped new toys for children aged 0-17.
2.30pm (Carrville) – Rev. Les Nevin and Mrs Norma Nevin lead our Forget Me Knot service.

Other regular activities 

Monday

  • 8.00pm – Faith & Friendship meets on Monday evenings either online or in person for discussion and fellowship. Contact Suzie for meeting dates and venue.
  • 5.30pm – Brownies at Carrville for girls aged 7-10 which enabled girls to work for interest badges developing a wide range of useful skills. 

Wednesday

  • 10.00am – Weekly prayer meeting – Join us for half an hour for the Durham City East Methodists’ online prayer meeting on Zoom. Contact Linda if you’d like the link to join us. Feel free to come along with your morning cuppa! 
  • 2.00pm – Monthly Bible Study – On the first Wednesday of each month we meet at Carrville for our monthly bible study. As we read, pray and talk together, hopefully the familiar and not so familiar stories will come alive in new and unexpected ways. Refreshments are provided. In October, November and December we will be using a resource written by Paula Gooder entitled “Woman of the Nativity” which is described as an Advent and Christmas journey in nine stories looking at Christmas from the perspective of women we read about in the Bible. 

Thursday

  • 10.00-11.00am Bowburn Weekly Coffee morning followed by Worship at 11.15am – you are welcome to join us for either or both events. This takes place in Bowburn Community Centre.
  • 10.00-11.30am (term time) – Pram Club meets during school term time at Carrville – please contact Joanne (07979 764009) if you have any questions. 

Friday

  • 6.00pmRainbows at Carrville for girls aged 4-7 and provides a structured programme of fun activities.

Saturday

  • 9.00-9.45am – Join us at Carrville for our monthly prayer breakfast on the 3rd Saturday in the month where we share in breakfast and explore different ways of praying.
  • 10.00-11.30amMonthly coffee morning on the 3rd Saturday in the month in the Carrville church hall. Contributions for the cake stall are greatly appreciated!
