What’s on now! Services and Events
Read on to discover the services and events we have taking place in Durham City East Methodists at our churches in Carrville, Pittington and Bowburn. A coffee morning takes place before the Bowburn and Pittington services, and refreshments are available the Carrville services – all are welcome to join us for refreshments and/or the services. At present we don’t offer dedicated children’s sessions or Sunday School as part of our services, but we are very used to, and are delighted by, having children of any age in church.

Tuesday 13th October
9.30am (Carrville) – Our informal service will be led by Ms Soo Ilingworth.
10.15am (Pittington) – Rev. Fiona Weir will lead this service.
Thursday 15th October
11.15am (Bowburn) – Rev. Paul Beetham leads this service.
Saturday 17th October
9.00-10.00am (Carrville) – Monthly prayer breakfast
10.00-11.30am (Carrville) – Join us for our monthly coffee morning. Donations for the raffle and cake stall are much appreciated.
Sunday 18th October
10.30am (Carrville) – Rev. Fiona Weir will lead our service which will include the annual commissioning of pastoral visitors.
Tuesday 20th October
9.30am (Carrville) – Our informal service will be led by Mrs Anne Offler.
10.15am (Pittington) – Pauline Caswell will lead this service.
Thursday 22nd October
11.15am (Bowburn) – Deacon Jane Middleton leads this service.

10.30am (Carrville) – Members of the congregation lead today’s service.
Tuesday 27th October
9.30am (Carrville) – Our informal service will be led by Rev. Paul Beetham.

Sunday 8th November
9.30am (Carrville) – Rev. Fiona Weir leads this Remembrance service (please note the earlier time). This will be followed by an act of remembrance at Belmont War Memorial (10.30am).

Wednesday 18th November
2.00pm (Carrville) – Join us for the first of 4 Advent Bible studies.
Save the date – Saturday 21st November
3.00pm (Carrville) – Join us for our autumn musical concert to enjoy a selection of light vocal and instrumental music performed by local musicians, followed by refreshments. There will be a retiring collection to be shared equally between St Cuthbert’s Hospice and the Church’s organ fund.
Save the date – Saturday 28th November
10.00-12.00 (Carrville) – Christmas fair including refreshments and a variety of stalls. Proceeds will be in aid of church funds.
Other regular activities
Monday
- 8.00pm – Faith & Friendship meets on Monday evenings either online or in person for discussion and fellowship. Contact Suzie for meeting dates and venue.
- 5.30pm – Brownies at Carrville for girls aged 7-10 which enabled girls to work for interest badges developing a wide range of useful skills.
Wednesday
- 10.00am – Weekly prayer meeting – Join us for half an hour for the Durham City East Methodists’ online prayer meeting on Zoom. Contact Linda if you’d like the link to join us. Feel free to come along with your morning cuppa!
- 2.00pm – Monthly Bible Study – On the 1st Wednesday of each month we meet at Carrville for our monthly bible study. As we read, pray and talk together, hopefully the familiar and not so familiar stories will come alive in new and unexpected ways. Refreshments are provided. We are currently studying the Psalms Bible Study by John Birch.
Thursday
- 10.00-11.00am – Bowburn Weekly Coffee morning followed by Worship at 11.15am – you are welcome to join us for either or both events. This takes place in Bowburn Community Centre.
- 10.00-11.30am (term time) – Pram Club meets during school term time at Carrville – please contact Joanne (07979 764009) if you have any questions (restarts on 3rd September).
Friday
- 6.00pm – Rainbows at Carrville for girls aged 4-7 and provides a structured programme of fun activities.
Saturday
- 9.00-10.00am – Join us at Carrville for our monthly prayer breakfast (3rd Saturday in the month) where we share in breakfast and explore different ways of praying.
- 10.00-11.30am – Monthly coffee morning (3rd Saturday in the month) in Carrville church hall. Contributions for the cake stall are greatly appreciated!

We have a wide selection of resources for prayer and worship in an online format, explore those you wish to get involved in. You may find one you want to use every week, or you may wish to join different services and communities each week.
