What’s on now! Services and Events
Read on to discover the services and events we have taking place in Durham City East Methodists at our churches in Carrville, Pittington and Bowburn. A coffee morning takes place before the Bowburn and Pittington services, and refreshments are available the Carrville services – all are welcome to join us for refreshments and/or the services. At present we don’t offer dedicated children’s sessions or Sunday School as part of our services, but we are very used to, and are delighted by, having children of any age in church.

Our Lent Bible studies are exploring ‘Conversations with Jesus – Five Bible Studies for Lent by John Birch. The dates and locations of the remaining sessions are as follows:

9.30am (Carrville) – Our Prayer breakfast team leads our informal service.
10.15am (Pittington) – Professor Mark Wilson will lead this service.
Thursday 26th March
11.15am (Bowburn) – Professor Mark Wilson will lead this service.
Sunday 29th March
10.30am (Carrville) – Rev. John Jebaseelan leads our service.
Tuesday 31st March
9.30am (Carrville) – Ms Soo Illingworth leads our informal service.
10.15am (Pittington) – Rev. John Squares will lead this service.
Maundy Thursday – 2nd April
11.15am (Bowburn) – Rev. Paul Beetham leads this communion service.
7.00pm (Carrville) – Rev. Les Nevin will lead a Tenebrae service.
Good Friday – 3rd April
10.30am (Carrville) – Rev. Les Nevin leads our Good Friday service.
Easter Sunday – 5th April
10.30am (Carrville) – Rev. Paul Beetham will lead our Easter Sunday service.
Tuesday 7th April
9.30am (Carrville) – Mrs Norma Nevin leads our informal service.
10.15am (Pittington) – Rev. Paul Beetham will lead this communion service.
Thursday 9th April
11.15am (Bowburn) – Ms Soo Illingworth leads this service.
Sunday – 12th April
10.30am (Durham City Methodists – Elvet site) – Our circuit churches come together to say farewell to Rev. John Jebaseelan (please note the venue for this service).
Tuesday 14th April
9.30am (Carrville) – Members of our prayer breakfast team lead our informal service.
10.15am (Pittington) – Ms Soo Illingworth will lead this service.
Thursday 16th April
11.15am (Bowburn) – Mr Bill Offler leads this service.
Saturday – 18th April
9.00-10.00 (Carrville) – Monthly prayer breakfast
10.00-11.30 (Carrville) – Join us for our monthly coffee morning.
Other regular activities
Monday
- 8.00pm – Faith & Friendship meets on Monday evenings either online or in person for discussion and fellowship. Contact Suzie for meeting dates and venue.
- 5.30pm – Brownies at Carrville for girls aged 7-10 which enabled girls to work for interest badges developing a wide range of useful skills.
Wednesday
- 10.00am – Weekly prayer meeting – Join us for half an hour for the Durham City East Methodists’ online prayer meeting on Zoom. Contact Linda if you’d like the link to join us. Feel free to come along with your morning cuppa!
- 2.00pm – Monthly Bible Study – On the first Wednesday of each month we meet at Carrville for our monthly bible study. As we read, pray and talk together, hopefully the familiar and not so familiar stories will come alive in new and unexpected ways. Refreshments are provided.
Thursday
- 10.00-11.00am – Bowburn Weekly Coffee morning followed by Worship at 11.15am – you are welcome to join us for either or both events. This takes place in Bowburn Community Centre.
- 10.00-11.30am (term time) – Pram Club meets during school term time at Carrville – please contact Joanne (07979 764009) if you have any questions.
Friday
- 6.00pm – Rainbows at Carrville for girls aged 4-7 and provides a structured programme of fun activities.
Saturday
- 9.00-10.00am – Join us at Carrville for our monthly prayer breakfast (3rd Saturday in the month) where we share in breakfast and explore different ways of praying.
- 10.00-11.30am – Monthly coffee morning (3rd Saturday in the month) in Carrville church hall. Contributions for the cake stall are greatly appreciated!

We have a wide selection of resources for prayer and worship in an online format, explore those you wish to get involved in. You may find one you want to use every week, or you may wish to join different services and communities each week.
